Mikel Wendell Frey
December 18, 1951 - July 17, 2018
Mikel Wendell Frey went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018. While on this Earth his passion was the spreading of the gospel. His career as a pastor took him and his family to Georgia, Missouri, and Florida. His favorite verse was Joshua 1:9, but his life verse was John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whosever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” His biggest desire was for people to come to know Jesus as their personal Savior. Mikel was born on December 18th, 1951 in Charleston, South Carolina. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 19. He went on to attend Florida Bible College where he felt called into ministry as a pastor. There he met his wife Wava with whom he recently celebrated 42 years of marriage. They became parents to their daughter, Christina Frey in August of 1979. He was ordained into ministry in 1981 and started his ministry in youth work and then went on to become a pastor. Mikel enjoyed reading, building models, football, and cooking his famous sausage gravy or beef stroganoff. He was known as a Trekkie and loved to watch cowboy shows and anything John Wayne. His two favorite quotes were “Never Quit.” And “Good, better, best, never let it rest, ‘til your good be better, and your better be best.” He loved his family, his friends, his church, but most of all his Lord Jesus. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Wendell Frey, his mother, Bernita Fowler Frey, and his sister Nadja Lee Russell. He is survived by his wife Wava Rinke Frey, his daughter Christina Frey, his sister Toni Harris, and his brother Nick Frey. While he will be loved and missed by his family, his wife and daughter have a hope so much bigger than their sorrow knowing how much he loved Jesus and will one day be reunited with him in Heaven.
