Gregory David Thomas
May 13, 1973 - January 21, 2019
THOMAS, GREGORY DAVID, 45, of St. Petersburg, the son of Paula A. Thomas and Douglas L. Thomas (deceased) and caring stepfather Melvin E. (Buddy) Baker, died unexpectedly Jan. 21, 2019. Greg was beloved by his estranged wife Christina, his companion Jennifer Hodosky, sister Wendy Baker, his niece Shannon Baker, his step-grandparents Melvin and Betty Baker of Waco, Texas, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Florida and Texas. Let’s not forget his ocean of friends. Greg made friends everywhere he went, from Florida to Pennsylvania to Hawaii. He was the life of any party, cooking a great meal while entertaining those present with his humorous and often long-winded stories. He would take over any gathering if you didn’t pay attention. He was willing to help anyone with a problem and would organize the crew to do the job. His height, bulk, beard and extensive tattoos gave him a forbidding image, but underneath all that he was an endearing teddy bear, a trait that fed into his nickname, “Bear.” He had just begun a new job working in a place he knew well — a restaurant kitchen. Greg’s remains will be cremated. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019, St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Community, Fr. Victor Ray, Officiant in the Chapel of Allendale United Methodist Church located at 3803 Haines Rd., St. Petersburg, FL 33703. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with Mass at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take a friend to lunch, help a stranger, or commit some other act of unbidden kindness.
