GREGORY A. MYER Gregory A. Myer, 63, of Largo, Florida, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, FL, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Massillon, Ohio, on July 10, 1953, he was the son of Donald P. Myer (deceased) and Dorothy (Kinnerson) Myer Carruthers of Brewster, Ohio. Mr. Myer, known to his many friends as “Tex,” worked in construction and was an expert tile setter. He was also a talented singer and loved music of all kinds. Mr. Myer was a veteran of the US Army. Outgoing and adventurous, with a ready smile and a quick wit, Mr. Myer wished to be remembered for the fun that he had during his life of traveling and working across the United States and for being a friend to all he met. In addition to his mother, Mr. Myer is survived by a sister, Nancy Myer McElveen (Wayne) of Greensboro, NC; a son, Chad Parsons of San Antonio, TX; nieces Jennifer McElveen of Lugoff, SC, and Julie McPeak (Lance) of Chapel Hill, NC, and great-niece Macie McPeak of Chapel Hill, NC; aunts Ocie Faye Kinnerson of Navarre, OH, and Bonnie Kinnerson of Massillon, OH, and numerous cousins. The family would like to express their thanks to all the caregivers at Bay Pines VA Medical Center for their care and compassion. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial service. Following cremation, Mr. Myer’s remains will be scattered in his beloved Lake Seminole. In remembrance of his concern for and kindness to others, Mr. Myer requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. When I’m Gone By Mrs. Lyman Hancock When I come to the end of my Journey And I travel my last weary mile, Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned And remember only the smile. Forget unkind words I have Spoken; Remember some good I have done. Forget that I ever had heartache And remember I’ve had loads of fun. Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered And sometimes fell by the way. Remember I have fought some hard battles And won, ere the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going, I would not have you sad for a day, But in summer just gather some flower And remember the place where I lie, And come in the shade of the evening When the sun paints the sky in the west Stand for a few moments beside me And remember only my best.
